Philips Lighting already prepares Rio de Janeiro for the sporting event of the year through a lighting for roads and tourist sites such as: Porto Maravilha, Arco Metropolitano, elevated Joa and the Museum do amanhã.
PL (To check PL definitions, click here: Abbreviationfinder), leading global lighting, announced the completion of four major projects of lighting the city of Rio de Janeiro improve its infrastructure before the sporting event in 2016. Organizers hope that more than half a million tourists visit the city for the games. The massive makeover in lighting includes the main roads of the city and tourist sites: Porto Maravilha, Arco Metropolitano and the high Joa do roads are equipped with energy efficiency in LED lighting, which will contribute to greater safety and energy saving. The Museu do amanhã (tomorrow Museum) will offer visitors a unique light and an audio experience with LED lighting that interacts with the background music.

Deliveries in the improvements of LED lighting, such as increased security and reduced energy bills are allowing the city to address economic, environmental and social problems at the same time”, said Yoon Young Kim, Director General of Philips Lighting Brazil.
LED Lighting in the Porto Maravilha
The region of the port, called Porto Maravilha, was revitalized by the concessionaire Porto Novo. As part of the renewal of the project, the area was equipped with 750 LED Philips GreenVision Xceed, which will provide up to 50% energy saving compared to conventional lighting. In addition to this technology, both tunnels in the region have been equipped with Philips LED Tunnel BWP350 lighting fixtures, which ensure safe levels of lighting for drivers.
All the LED lighting system installed in the port is managed by Philips CityTouch, public lighting system that integrates with Central Control of operations (CCO) of the concessionaire Porto Novo, allowing via remote control of each light point and maintenance scheduling. The system also allows the setting via remote of lighting levels depending on the specific needs of the area, which significantly reduces the consumption of electricity.
The Metropolitan arch, the road which is located around the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, which connects the region of the port of Itaguaí has been equipped with 4,360 Philips GreenVision Xceed Solar lighting fixtures. Each fixture has a built-in solar panel that converts sunlight into electricity, in addition to providing a sustainable lighting option. Philips Lighting participated in this project in collaboration with Kyocera Solar, a company specializing in the manufacture and distribution of solutions in solar electricity.
High do Joa, another major road located in the western part of the city and connecting long da Barra to São Conrado used 986 lights LED Philips FlowBase and 369 lights LED Philips GreenVision Xceed, to reduce energy consumption and to provide a uniform and efficient illumination in the four tunnels along the highway.
LED Lighting in the Museu Do Amanhã
Philips Lighting collaborated with the Museu do amanhã (tomorrow Museum), a new tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro with the “Luminotechnics project”, which was developed by the architect Monica Wolf, from LD Studio. The last area of the Museum, Oca da Imaginação (Imagination Hut), which takes the visitor to a distant future was equipped with dynamic and exclusive accessories for LED lighting of Philips (Philips Color Kinetics iColor MR gen3 and iW Burst Powercore), which can reproduce various colors and interact with background music. With this type of stage lighting, visitors can enjoy a unique and interactive experience.
According to the architect and designer of lighting of the Museum of the Amanhã, Mônica Luz Lobo, there was great attention on the integration of all lighting fixtures to highlight the elegant architecture of the building, as well as the commitment to the certification system LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design).
